Chatsworth is one of the most famous historic estates in Britain and just a short 10 mile drive from the centre of Matlock Bath in the heart of Derbyshire’s Peak District.
A visit is highly recommended if you’re in the area, whether you just want to take in the beautiful countryside, explore the extensive gardens or browse the magnificently decorated and historic rooms and art collections of the house itself.
If it’s a pleasant walk in the rolling Peak District countryside you’re after, the parkland which surrounds Chatsworth House is free to enter (although a small charge is levied for parking).
For those not interested in the house interior, a ticket can be purchased for access to the 105 acre gardens which includes the maze, water features and sculptures. The same applies to the farmyard and adventure playground (an option which might prove popular with the kids).
Alternatively, and for a full day’s entertainment, a Discovery Pass can be purchased which provides access to all Chatsworth’s attractions.
The Chatsworth Estate is in Derbyshire approximately 10 miles north of Matlock and 15 miles from Junction 29 of the M1 (see adjacent map). For sat-nav users, the post code is DE45 1PP.
